What is the Regional Externship Program?
The Regional Externship Program is a summer initiative that connects teachers and counselors in Seguin, Marion, and New Braunfels with local employers through one-day industry site visits. The goal is to help educators better understand workforce needs, career pathways, and in-demand skills so they can better prepare students for future careers in that industry. 

 What is the goal of the program?
The goal is to strengthen the connection between education and industry by giving educators real-world exposure they can use to better align instruction, advising, and career awareness with local workforce needs. 

Who can participate?
The program is open to Career and Technical Educator teachers, high school teachers, and counselors in Seguin, Marion, and New Braunfels. The program is first come first serve and preference will be given to high school CTE teachers. Employers located in Comal and Guadalupe counties can participate in the program. 

Where will the externship take place? Externships will take place at local businesses located in Seguin, Marion, and/or New Braunfels. It is likely that teachers will need to travel between Seguin and New Braunfels for their externship placement. We will provide an agenda and details of the program at least two weeks in advance. 

Is there an incentive for teachers and counselors to participate?
Yes. Educators who participate will receive a $100 H-E-B gift card upon completion of the program. A post-event survey is also required to be completed to receive the H-E-B gift card.

When will the externship experiences take place? Externships will be offered between Tuesday, June 2, Wednesday, June 3rd and Thursday, June 4th with businesses located in Comal or Guadalupe counties. 

Do I have to participate in all three days? No. Externships can be completed in one-day between 9 am until 4 pm. Teachers may participate in additional days if spots are available; however, gift cards are limited to (1) $100 per educator.

How many gift cards am I eligible for? Only one, regardless of how many days you participate in. 

How long is each externship? Each externship is a one-day industry site visit from 9 am until 4 pm. Educators will visit up to two businesses located in either Seguin and/or New Braunfels for one day. 

What industries will be represented?
Participating industries may include healthcare, construction, advanced manufacturing, and other high-demand fields across the region.

How do teachers sign up? Teachers and counselors will register for the site visits that best align with their teaching area or interests, subject matter, or student advising responsibilities. Educators can express their interest in participating in this program by completing our interest form. Educators who are selected to participate will receive an email with a Sign Up form to select their industry site(s).

How do employers participate?
Employers can sign up to host educators for one or more days during the program dates.

What is expected of employers who host?
Host sites should be prepared to welcome educators, provide an overview of their company and industry, share information about careers and required skills, and offer a behind-the-scenes look at workplace operations.
